My mother has always loved candles, cardinals, and both etched and cut glass. We always have a candle (or several) on the dinner table. This winter-themed candle holder was designed as a cup, with a winter scene of cardinals and holly berries. Despite being a drug store find, it has lasted many years and makes its appearance on the table every winter season, bringing cardinals to the house regardless of whether actual cardinals come to the bird feeders.
The cut-glass dish under the purple candle (a recent Christmas gift) has been around the house longer than I have. It is one of many pieces of cut glass—some glasses, some vases, some trays—in my mother’s collection, but this one was bought specifically as a candle holder. It continues to perform admirably!
