Braided Stars

Despite being made out of folded paper, these stars are not origami. Instead, they are made out of four strips of paper folded around each other and come out of the Danish tradition. There is some debate over whether they are most correctly named “Danish Stars” or “Braided Stars.”
I learned how to make these one evening from my uncle, sitting around his dining room table. This was during the Thanksgiving week I spent at his house visiting family, particularly my paternal grandmother. It wound up being one of the last visits prior to the death of grandmother, almost the last time I got to see a different uncle, and the last visit prior to the death of my aunt.
